Bringing people together in times of alienation: Segway’s digital joy ride with EMAKINA

Chris Budgen

We are proud to announce that the platform created for Segway Europe by EMAKINA CEE and EMAKINA NL won the “2016 Kentico Consumer Goods Site of the Year”. This award means a lot, especially since it is a very selective one – the winners are voted by a jury and then by the international Kentico community. It once more confirms EMAKINA’s expertise as a leading Kentico partner.

On a roll for Segway

After opening a new office in Rotterdam and thus entering the European and Middle Eastern market, Segway needed to adapt and expand its web presence. The idea was to create a multinational and multilingual platform for all distributors across the entire EMEA region – meaning that 96 language and country combinations needed to be integrated. Our Kentico experts took on this challenge and together with the Segway team, they defined a new marketing approach: in a time where technology seems to alienate us from each other, Segway’s technology brings people together.

The new website therefore focuses on the social aspect rather than on the technical one and presents Segway as an opportunity to share outdoor experiences with friends. The result is simply beautiful: one vivid and vibrant platform with brilliant pictures made possible by a generous, modern design. Every country has its own URL and can personalize the global content to meet their own regional and market-specific needs.

A tough competition

The Kentico Site of the Year contest rewards the best Kentico implementations. First, experts at Kentico shortlisted three finalists in each category out of the hundreds of nominations launched by over 1,100 Kentico partners around the world. The Kentico public community then voted for the best website in each category.

This award was made possible by our close cooperation with the client in launching the new platform, as well as by the smooth teamwork between our dedicated teams of designers and developers in the Netherlands and Austria, who brought the site to life within four months. According to Gerhard Handler, CEO of EMAKINA CEE, it “shows that we have the right technology partner on our side”.
